Illinois Man Pleads Fraudulent eBay Sales

A northwestern Illinois man has pleaded guilty to taking part in a scheme to purchase household goods online using stolen credit card information and then sell the items to buyers through his eBay account.

Anthony DeFilippo of Hanover admitted that from 2009 to 2011 he devised and took part in the fraud, which involved the sale of items such as vacuum cleaners and sewing machines.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the northern district of Illinois announced Friday that the 56-year-old man pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges, which carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Federal prosecutors say DeFilippo kept some of the proceeds from the eBay sales and sent some of the money to people in Ukraine and other countries.
