Lincoln Developing 5-Year Street Work Plan

width=The City of Lincoln is embarking on a plan to update their streets.

Over the next several weeks, city officials will analyze the condition of their streets. Mayor of Lincoln, Keith Snyder says the topic of streets is always a popular topic because residents want safe streets and good streets to drive on. He explains analyzing their streets' conditions will give them a long term strategy instead of going month by month on their goals.

The City Council of Lincoln has engaged an outside firm to aid them in their outlook to the future. Mayor Snyder says there are many factors that go into top priority streets. He says the biggest factor though is the 'drive-ability' of a street. Other factors include the types of streets and the amount of traffic a street receives.

A few years ago, the voters of Lincoln voted for a sales tax increase that would go into infrastructure improvements around the city. The Mayor explains those improvements they felt necessary be addressed first have been addressed, but now Mayor Snyder notes he would like to see that money used a little more objectively.

This plan development has been several months in the making. Mayor Snyder explains they were forced to contract with an outside firm because they had their City Engineer take another job, but they hired a local firm, Prairie Engineers.

Part of the upcoming meetings with Prairie Engineers will be discussion with City Officials. Mayor Snyder hopes to have the five-year plan approved later in December, if not, early January and begin getting some of their target work out for bid and get ahead of the construction bid season.
