Monticello Gearing Up For Kickoff To Christmas With Weekend Full of Holiday Events

A busy weekend is on tap in the city of Monticello.

Several events kick off the Christmas season starting Friday. Sue Gortner, Executive Director of the Monticello Chamber of Commerce explains their "Reds of Christmas" event takes place on the downtown Monticello Square. Gortner says downtown businesses will be open for those who attend to shop through. The event is also a red wine tasting event.

"Lunch with Santa On The Train" will bring several hundred people to the community. The event is so popular, Gortner says tickets go on sale in June and are sold out usually shortly after they go on sale. "Lunch With Santa" allows young kids the individual opportunity with Santa to tell him what they want for Christmas. Over the almost 20 years of the event, Gortner says the event has almost become a generational event.

The annual Monticello Christmas parade will take place Saturday as well, which usually sees over 50 entries every year and a couple thousand people generally take to the streets to watch. Gortner says the parade has been going for over 50 years and has received a tremendous amount of community support.
