Two Illinois Universities Among Most Dangerous

Two of Illinois' public universities are among the most dangerous in the nation.  Business Insider puts Southern Illinois University Carbondale at number 15 and Western Illinois University at number 20.  The rankings are calculated using FBI crime data for property and violent crimes from 2008 and 2011.  During that time period, there were 16 violent crimes and 291 property crimes at SIU.  Western had ten violent crimes and 161 property crimes.  Property crimes include burglary, auto theft, arson and larceny.  Violent crimes include murder, manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.  Officials at both schools disagree with the results and say safety is their number one priority.
