A judge in central Illinois has sentenced a 55-year-old LeRoy man to life in prison for the sexual assault of 3 girls.

Thomas Campbell was convicted in October of predatory sexual assault.

Judge Robert Freitag agreed with Assistant State's Attorney Karle Koritz that Campbell was eligible for life in prison. An Illinois law provides the most serious punishment for those convicted of predatory assault of 2 or more victims.

After the hearing, the prosecutor said the sentence will bring some peace to the victims.

Campbell says he plans to file an appeal.
