Two Arrested In Connection With Maroa Murder

Just after 7:30 a.m. on Monday it was reported a female subject came home from work and found her husband, 23-year old Justin E. Mentzer, inside their residence severely injured and unresponsive at the 200th block of East Washington Street in Maroa. Mentzer was later declared dead.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Maroa Police Chief Brad Wilkey requested investigative assistance from the Illinois State Police and the Macon County Sheriff’s Office. An investigative team, led by Illinois State Police Zone 5, was formed with officers from the Maroa Police Department, Macon County Sheriff’s Office, Macon County Coroner’s Office, Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office, Dewitt County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, District 10 Patrol and Zone 5 Investigations. The investigation was handled as a homicide from the onset.

Two suspects were arrested for First Degree Murder, Home Invasion, and Aggravated Robbery. At approximately 10:00 p.m. Monday, 21-year old Douglas W. Taylor of and 21-year old Terris D. Warnsley, both of Maroa, were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Macon County Jail, pending formal charges. Taylor is currently being held at the Macon County Jail on $10,000,000 bond. Warnsley is also being held at the Macon County Jail and was scheduled for a bond hearing yesterday.

An autopsy was conducted and the preliminary cause of death was listed as multiple blunt and sharp force injuries due to an assault.
