Lawmaker Still Hopes For Gambling Expansion

The sponsor of legislation to add five new casinos in Illinois says Gov. Pat Quinn has been unwilling to negotiate a compromise, but he remains hopeful one can be reached.

Rep. Lou Lang, a Skokie Democrat, said Thursday he questions whether Quinn really wants a deal before the end of the legislative session.

Lang said Quinn hasn't met with him or the bill's other sponsor.

A spokeswoman for Quinn says the governor's priority is pension reform and he has been clear about what a gambling deal must include.

The bill would add slot machines in horse racing tracks in addition to the casinos.

Quinn vetoed it this summer, saying it lacked important ethical protections.

Lang said if there's no deal before Jan. 9, legislators will try again next session.
