RCC Announces Plans For New Clinton Site

One local educational establishment in DeWitt County will be the first to take advantage of a spot that has been seeking development for some time.

Richland Community College recently announced they have intentions to begin building a facility at the Douglass Subdivision east of US Highway 51 in Clinton. Dr. Douglass Brauer, Vice President of Richland Community College explains they have long been seeking a new place of residency in DeWitt County away from their current occupancy at Clinton High School.

Their current location at Clinton High School has restricted Richland in some of the things they've wanted to do here as far as programming goes. Dr. Brauer says for a long time, they have wanted to have a better site, and he says to be the first occupant of the Douglass Subdivision is something the school is excited about.

The new location for the Community College will provide many more opportunities for students in Clinton and DeWitt County. Dr. Brauer says he wants to tap into more vocational and workforce ready students. He feels there is also a great opportunity to give student the opportunity to get some of their general education courses out of the way before going to the more expensive universities.

When looking at possible locations, there were many things the school wanted to make sure they had room for to make available for their students. Dr. Brauer says one of the big things was multi-purpose classrooms and a computer lab.

The new site at the Douglass Subdivsion will be a 4-thousand square foot building with designs to be added onto if needed. Dr. Brauer feels this is going to greatly increase their presence in the northern portion of their district, but also provide great opportunities for students, residents, and those in the workforce in DeWitt County.

Tomorrow we will have the reaction of local leaders as well as further comments from Dr. Brauer on their announcement build a new facility in DeWitt County.
