Local Leaders Encouraged By Syngenta's Expansion In DeWitt County

Local leaders are very excited at the news of Syngenta's DeWitt County research facility expanding.

 width=Tuesday morning Syngenta held a ground breaking ceremony and many local leaders were on hand. Clinton Mayor Carolyn Peters says with the times of uncertainty with local governments, it is nice to see a successful company like Syngenta investing in their DeWitt County facility. Their expansion will bring new job opportunities to the area, and the Mayor hopes that will bring families, revenue, and volunteerism to the DeWitt County community.

"(Agriculture) is not recession proof. We are not drought proof". After a tough year fighting drought and continuing to battle a lull in the ecomonomy, DeWitt County Farm Bureau President Tom Hieronymus feels Syngenta's continued research will help in years like farmers have experienced this year.

DeWitt County Farm Bureau Executive Director Ken Bjelland says Syngenta's expansion is going to have a two fold benefit. He feels the continued research is going to be very good for agriculture and also continuing to grow a local business is going to be very good for the community.

Syngenta's expansion will bring many, high salary and very stable jobs to the community. Executive Director of the DeWitt County Development Council Ruth Stauffer says Syngenta's DeWitt County site will be the largest research and development facility for corn and soybeans in North America and she feels this is going to put some positive spotlights on the County.

Syngenta plans to have the new expansion finished by the middle of next year.
