Monticello City Levies Holding Steady

This is the time of year when city governments analyze their levies for the upcoming year.

 width=One local community feels they can get by with leaving their levies where they have been in the past. Monticello Mayor Chris Corrie says the City of Monticello feels they can keep their tax rate where it was last year. He notes with that in mind, they are going to have look very closely at where they spend their money when it comes to city projects.

There are some areas of the city the Mayor has an eye on for improving. One being their outdoor City park. Mayor Corrie notes their regular projects are moving along like they normally would. He notes they will take caution when deciding which projects to take on so they do not have to raise taxes.

A couple local sources of revenue the City receives may be vulnerable to Springfield receiving a portion of. Mayor Corrie says there local sales tax dollars and the Corporate Personal Property Replacement Tax are revenues he sees the state getting their hands on.

Going forward Mayor Corrie says raising taxes is not out of the question, but the City Council and city administrators will do everything they can to keep the tax level where it is. He feels as long as City Government can get by with the current tax rate, they will be able to maintain it.
