Randy Hannig, with Equality Illinois, says he's excited to know same sex couples may soon have the right to get married in Illinois. He says a civil union just isn't quite the same.

Lawmakers are gearing up to pass a plan allowing gay couples to get married in the state. Hannig says they'll be asking members of both the House and Senate to vote in favor of the idea.

It's been on the table for at least a year when the proposal was introduced in the House. But sponsor Greg Harris never called it for a vote because he said there were more pressing issues to deal with, like pensions. Governor Quinn has called on lawmakers to get a proposal on his desk as soon as possible.
