Heyworth Schools Looking For Better Ways To Evaluate Teachers Methods

The Heyworth School District will be changing how they evaluate their teachers.

Teachers can be the most influential person in a child's life, aside from their parents. Dr. Ty Wolfe, Superintendent of Heyworth Schools, says it becomes then increasingly important teachers are very strong and able to reach their students. He explains they are in the midst of a critical movement where they look at data more closely.

This movement focuses on reaching students earlier, and assessing their progress to make sure they are keeping up, rather than, according to Dr. Wolfe, realizing they are behind, and trying to catch them up.

Instead of putting an emphasis on testing, Heyworth Schools are looking to put less stress on test scores. Dr. Wolfe feels developing a love of learning and reading in students is something they want develop going forward.

Dr. Wolfe feels Heyworth has a very strong group of teachers in the district. He says that is exemplified by their high scores in McLean County, the state and with the schools they send their students to after high school.
