Gun sales and ammunition sales for sporting goods stores around the area are on the rise.

width=Local store owners are seeing an increase in their sales since the re-election of President Barack Obama and the shooting in Connecticut. Rebecca Moore, owner of Round Again Sports in Clinton says she has seen an exponential increase in sales over the past few months. A Monticello business owner is also seeing the same trends as Moore. Owner of Blue Ridge Backwoods in Monticello, Jake Romano says he is seeing gun sales of all types skyrocketing recently. He says ammunition is so hard to find right now, not just at his store, but bigger box stores as well.

Romano attributes the skyrocketing numbers in gun sales all over to a fear that government is becoming to big and government is going to leave people unprotected. He says the right to bear arms is the checks and balances towards government as a last resort is if need be.

With the re-election of President Obama, both Moore and Romano confirm their gun sales went up after the November 6 election. Illinois was recently ordered by a federal court to come up with a conceal carry law within six months, one has not been put together to this point. Governor Pat Quinn has also proposed banning assault weapons ammunition.

Blue Ridge Backwoods is located at 1410 North Market Street in Monticello.

Round Again Sports is located at 55 Cedar Square in Clinton.
