Quinn Encouraged By Proposed Pension Overhaul

A spokeswoman says Gov. Pat Quinn is encouraged by a bill that addresses the state's pension crisis and is expected to come up in committee on Monday.

Quinn's spokeswoman Brooke Anderson says the governor has been working with the bill's sponsor Democratic Rep. Elaine Nekritz of Northbrook.

Nekritz says she's optimistic that the bill can move out of committee. The amended measure calls for employees to chip in more toward retirement costs and freezes cost-of-living increases for retirees for a time, among other things.

Legislative leaders met in Chicago on Saturday to talk about pensions, but didn't leave with a definitive deal.

The House reconvened Sunday. New lawmakers are scheduled to be sworn in Wednesday.
