Blame Game Continues Over Failed Pension Reform

Political leaders in Springfield are still playing the blame game when it comes to pension reform. Lawmakers didn't get the job done before their anticipated deadline and according to Senate President John Cullerton, Republicans in the House weren't able to agree on a suitable deal.

Senate GOP Leader Christine Radogno is disappointed that pension reform didn't pass before the deadline. She says she's concerned nothing will get accomplished on the issue.

Several pension proposals hit roadblocks in the past year. The challenge is trying to draft a proposal that doesn't violate the state's Constitution, which says pension benefits can't be diminished or impaired. Senate President John Cullerton plans to introduce another bill today. It'll outline changes to four of the five pension systems, giving workers an option to choose their benefits. Cullerton says by giving workers a choice, the proposal will be in line with the law.
