Illnois Mother admits to leaving baby in ditch

A northern Illinois woman has pleaded guilty to charges she left her baby in a roadside ditch and told police the child was abducted.

19-year-old Kendra Meaker pleaded guilty Friday in Stark County Circuit Court. Prosecutors say she put the baby in a ditch in rural Toulon (TUU-lahn) in September and then lied to police, telling them the baby girl was abducted. An Amber Alert was issued. Meaker eventually changed her story and told Illinois State Police and FBI investigators she left the baby on a roadside.

Two volunteer searchers found the crying child.

Meaker's father, Ken Meaker, said after Friday's hearing that he supports her "100%." Meaker's sentencing is scheduled for March 8.
