Political Strategist Predicts Gun Control Success

Political strategist David Axelrod says he believes Congress will act on gun-control legislation despite opposition from what he calls a "tremendously powerful" gun lobby.

President Obama on Wednesday will announce a sweeping effort to curb gun violence that will include a ban on military-style assault weapon

Axelrod said Tuesday he doesn't think President Obama will get everything he wants, but there has been an awakening following the shooting at the Connecticut school last month that left 20 kindergarteners and six others dead.

Axelrod, who ran Obama's presidential campaigns, spoke at a benefit for Misericordia, a home for the developmentally disabled. Axelrod said the most extreme of the spectrum of National Rifle Association members has "seized control" of the group. He added it's the Obama administration's cultivate those who favor reforms.
