University of Illinois Expected To Consider Housing-Cost Rise

Later this month trustees at the University of Illinois will consider an increase of 2% to almost 7% in the cost of student housing on its three campuses.

Fees would also rise but recommendations for tuition for the coming school year have not been made.

Reports indicate trustees will meet Jan. 24 in Chicago and consider raising the annual cost of housing at the Urbana-Champaign campus about 3% to $9,979.

The cost in Chicago would increase by 2% to $10,600 a year. In Springfield housing costs would increase by almost 7% to $10,350.

Fees would rise 1% to $2,916 in Urbana and 1.5% to $2,948 in Chicago. Springfield fees would increase 6% to $1,892.
