Flu Hitting Local Schools Hard

Cold and flu season has been running rampant this winter and area schools are feeling the effects.

Mike Williams, Superintendent of Maroa-Forsyth schools, says his district hasn't been immune to the sickness. He says that they saw their worst number of illnesses right before Christmas. He also says that the percentage of absenteeism before the holidays was larger than the normal school year.

Williams says while it would take a large percentage of students absent to cancel school, sick teachers pose as the biggest reason to close. He also says that they usually judge this issue on sickness surrounding the area.
