Red Cross Plans First Ever Black Tie Event

The Mid-Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross over the past few years has been looking for ways to raise money for their various programs.

The American Red Cross' First Annual "Diamond Affair" is coming in February. The event will be a formal black-tie event where guests can dress up and have a fun evening out. Carl Baker, the Executive Director of the American Red Cross' Mid-Illinois Chapter, explains the event will be great for those who get cabin fever over the winter months and would love to have a night out. The "Affair" will feature live music and auctions to keep those attending involved.

The "Diamond Affair" will also premiere a special honorary award for the first time. According to Baker, the award will be named after Inez Andreas who was a dedicated worker and friend of the Red Cross for many years. Her family will be present to accept the award, posthumously, on her behalf.

Baker adds the Red Cross will be looking for a special person to receive the award in future years. The person will need to exude enthusiasm and passion for the organization. The "Diamond Affair" will be Saturday, February 23rd from 5:30-11:30 pm. The event will be held at the Country Club in Decatur.

Information will be posted on the Red Cross' website soon at www.midillinoisredcross.org or they can be contacted by phone at 428-7758.
