Cards Sign Motte; Other MLB Free Agent Notes

>>Cards Sign Motte To Two-Year Deal

(St. Louis, MO) -- The St. Louis Cardinals have locked up closer Jason Motte for the next two seasons. The team has signed the right-hander to a two-year deal, covering Motte's remaining two years of arbitration eligibility. Motte tied for the National League lead with 42 saves last season while posting a 2.75 ERA in 67 games. The 30-year-old is 17-and-13 with 54 saves and a 2.87 ERA in 282 career games since breaking into the majors with the Cardinals in 2008.

(Philadelphia, PA) -- Delmon Young is latching on with the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phils have signed the veteran outfielder to a one-year, 750-thousand-dollar contract. The 27-year-old hit .267 with 18 home runs and 74 RBI last season with Detroit. He was acquired by the Tigers from Minnesota during the 2011 season. Young was arrested last April for allegedly getting into a scuffle with a group of men outside a New York hotel and making anti-semitic remarks. He's a career .284 hitter with 89 home runs in seven big league seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, Twins and Tigers.

(Toronto, Ontario) -- Mark DeRosa is the newest member of the Toronto Blue Jays. The 37-year-old utilityman has signed a one-year, 750-thousand-dollar contract, with a 750-thousand-dollar club option for 2014. DeRosa appeared in 48 games with the Washington Nationals last season, batting .188 with no home runs and six RBI. He's a career .270 hitter with a .340 on-base-percentage in 15 major league seasons with the Braves, Rangers, Cubs, Indians, Cardinals, Giants and Nationals.
