Rejuvenation of City Park Nearly Complete

The Clinton High School Class of 1973's Roque Court Project is looking like it could be complete in 2013.

The class has spent the better half of two years transforming a former sore spot that was once prominent city property into a rejuvenated city park. Cris Rogers is a member of the Class of 73, he explains there are only small things left to improve at the park, otherwise, it is ready to be dedicated and handed back over to the City of Clinton.

The Class of 73 has faced a lot of adversity through the course of the transformation. Between underestimating the time it would take to complete the project to having not enough funds or help, Rogers says it's taken a long time, but it is coming together nicely.

Thanks to an early winter fundraising effort, the Class of 73 was able to secure enough funds to update some tables and chairs for the park. Rogers says they still need to add another layer of clay surfacing to the roque court. He hopes one day they can put down a permanent Astroturf-like surface on the court.

The Class of 73 is hopeful their dedication of the park and turning it back over to the city of Clinton will coincide with the 40th Class Reunion of their high school graduation.

Once the dedication takes place, the Peace Park will become a city park, under city governance and city care. It will also take on the same rules as all the other city parks.
