Local Unemployment Figures Released For December

Local unemployment figures were released last week with little good news, as just about all areas of the state saw gains in unemployment from November to December of last year.

DeWitt County saw inunemployment go from 7.3% to 7.9%.

Logan County's unemployment rate jumped to 8.1%, up from 7.5%.

In Piatt County, unemployment rose almost a percentage point, from 6.5% to 7.4%.

McLean County's unemployment inched up just slightly, going from 6.1% to 6.3%.

Macon County had one of the area's largest jumps, going from 10.2% to 11.8%.

Champaign County went from 7.2%to 7.3%.

Christian County's unemployment bumped from 7.9% to 8.6%.

Ford County jumped a half percent, at 7.4% to 7.9%.

In Livingston County, unemployment went from 7.6% to 8%.

Mason County saw unemployment jump over the ten-percent benchmark, going from 9.3% to 10.1%.

Sangamon County saw unemployment go from 6.9% to 7.2%.

And Tazewell County jumped in unemployment, from 7.2% to 7.9%.

The state's lowest unemployment rate was in Brown County, which was at 4.7% and the highest unemployment rate was in Boone County, where unemployment jumped nearly two percent, up to 11.9%.

The biggest gains in unemployment were in Scott County, where unemployment ballooned to 10.9%, up from 8.8% in November of 2012.

One County saw drops in unemployment, and that was in Alexander County, where unemployment there dropped from 11.2% to 10.6%.

The State's unemployment rate for December was at 8.6%, which was up from 8.3% in November. The national average was 7.6% for December.
