Ravens, 49ers Battle For Lombardi Trophy

The hype is almost over and Super Bowl 47 is just days away. Nicknamed the "HarBowl," this marks the first Super Bowl in which head coaching brothers will face one another. John Harbaugh's Ravens are in the title game after beating the Colts, Broncos and Patriots this postseason, while Jim Harbaugh's 49ers advanced with playoff wins over the Packers and Falcons. Baltimore won its only prior Super Bowl appearance in 2001, while San Francisco is a perfect 5-and-0 in the big game. It's the first time two teams with prior experience meet with undefeated Super Bowl records. The 49ers' last Super Bowl victory came in 1995. A San Francisco win would match Pittsburgh for the most Super Bowl victories of all-time with six. John and Jim have faced off one other time as NFL head coaches, with John's Ravens beating Jim's 49ers 16-6 in November of 2011. This also marks the final game for retiring Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis. The 49ers have ridden the dual-threat of quarterback Colin Kaepernick [[ CAP-er-nick ]], who took over for Alex Smith as the team's starter in November after Smith suffered a concussion in a Week 10 tie against the St. Louis Rams. The Ravens and 49ers battle for the Lombardi Trophy Sunday at the Superdome.
