Illinois wild turkey hunters harvested 1,330 birds during the 2012 season, a slight increase over the previous year.
The Department of Natural Resources announced Tuesday interest in fall turkey hunting is particularly strong with archery hunters who are able to harvest a wild turkey while deer hunting.
The number of wild turkeys harvested during the fall archery harvest increased about 8.4% over 2011. The fall firearm harvest fell about 6.7%.
Overall, the harvest increased about 1% over 2011.
The archery wild turkey season ran from Oct. 1 to Jan. 20 in 96 counties. The firearm season was Oct. 20 to 28 in 51 counties.
The firearm harvest was greatest in Jo Daviess County. Fulton County had the top archery harvest.
