But prison safety has been a problem in the past several months. One inmate was killed by his cellmate in a segregation unit at Menard. Several guards have been very badly beaten by inmates. Former State Senator John O. Jones says the DOC Director isn't doing his job when it comes to ensuring prison safety. Jones actually filed a resolution back in January, calling on Quinn to fire Godinez and several other top DOC officials. The resolution never got called for a vote. Jones retired last month but other GOP senators plan to keep pushing the issue.
