Citizen Pushes For May Carry Concealed Carry Law

Gun advocates want lawmakers to pass a "Shall Carry" concealed carry law, which means state police would issue a permit to all qualified applicants. But Mary Kay Mace, who lost her daughter in the NIU shootings five years ago, wants local authorities to have a stronger voice.

Mace is pushing for the "May Carry" alternative. The Illinois Council against Handgun Violence supports Mace's position, claiming each region of the state has different needs. But State Rep Denis Reboletti says a "May Carry" law would further divide Illinois. He stresses that Illinois is one state and everyone needs to be governed by the same law.
