Clinton Board of Education Recognizes Outstanding Student, Student Athletes

The Clinton Board of Education took time Tuesday night to recognize some outstanding students and student athletes.

 width=The Clinton High School Girls Basketball team won a Regional Championship. Head Coach of the Lady Maroons Josh Williams says his girls had a very successful season. Playing in numerous championship games and stepping up against the state of Illinois' toughest competition bodes well for their future.

This past weekend, Clinton High School Senior Wrestler Kye Reczek competing at the IHSA Individual State Wrestling meet at the University of Illinois' Assembly Hall. Superintendent Dr. Jeff Holmes explains Reczek went all the way to the championship and competed against Brian Bahrs from Newman Central Catholic in Sterling. It was a rematch between the two, which Bahrs took. Bahrs would win the match and the 160 pound class championship, but Reczek made this match much closer.

 width=The Clinton High School WYSE Program, or Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering, has also experience success this year. Leader of the WYSE team, Steve Cors says they have made to the sectional competition. He notes their scores were very close to them not qualifying, which points to how important each individual on the team is.

12 Junior High School students were chosen out of 95 Illinois students to have their art displayed at the Madden Arts Center in downtown Decatur.
