Fire Destroys Clinton Home

More details have been released about a house fire that engulfed a Clinton home Friday afternoon.

Clinton Fire Chief Shawn Milton indicates crews from Clinton were called around 12:45 pm Friday afternoon to battle a blaze in a two story home at 31 Park Court in frigid temperatures Friday. Later crews from Kenney, Maroa and Wapella would join the scene.

The homeowners indicated a suspicion the fire had originated in the basement of the home, but the Chief says they arrived to the fire on the second floor.

Chief Milton says his crews left the scene around 7 pm but were called back at around 10 pm. Chief Milton says they anticipated being called back. He adds the fire caused the collapse of the floors to the main and 2nd floors.

The fire home was left at a total loss. Chief Milton says an investigation is still ongoing as to the cause of the fire. He could not confirm reports of a natural gas leak that caused the fire to rapidly spread throughout the house.
