House Committee Discusses Assault Weapons Ban

THE GUN DEBATE IN SPRINGFIELD IS NOW TURNING TO ASSAULT WEAPONS.

AT ANOTHER HOUSE HEARING ON GUN CONTROL…LAWMAKERS…GUN RIGHTS ADVOCATES AND OPPONENTS DISCUSSED A PROPOSED BAN ON ASSAULT WEAPONS. THOSE AGAINST THE BAN…INCLUDING REPRESENTATIVE DENNIS REBOLETTI OF ADDISON SAY ANOTHER FIREARM LAW WON’T STOP THE MAJORITY OF THOSE COMMITTING GUN CRIMES.

WHILE THOSE WHO SUPPORT OUTLAWING ASSAULT WEAPONS WOULD PREFER TO SEE A NATIONWIDE, FEDERAL BAN ENACTED…MOST AGREE ILLINOIS SHOULDN’T WAIT AROUND FOR THAT TO HAPPEN. THAT INCLUDES REPRESENTATIVE EDWARD ACEVEDO…WHO IS ALSO A CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER.

THE ILLINOIS SHERIFF’S ASSOCIATION SAYS INSTEAD, MORE EMPHASIS SHOULD BE PLACED ON ENFORCING EXISTING GUN LAWS AND IMPROVING MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES.
