A House committee Friday morning passed legislation that would offer in-state college tuition to veterans across the country and attract them to stay in Illinois to live and raise their families. The legislation is sponsored by State Representative Adam Brown (R-Decatur).It would provide parity for those individuals who have been honorably discharged from the armed forces of the United States to receive in-state tuition rates as statute currently allows active duty military members.
The legislation does not waive the tuition but allows the governing board of the university to deem that person an Illinois resident for tuition purposes even if he or she is not a resident of this State.
