University of Illinois Close Rockford Psyhciatric Clinic

The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford is planning to close its psychiatric clinic early this fall.

According to reports, officials began notifying patients last month.

College of Medicine spokeswoman Cynthia Hall says the clinic has been struggling financially in recent years. She cites a continual decrease in funding from the state as a reason for the decision.

She says the teaching opportunities at the clinic are limited and the university felt it was best to redirect resources.

The clinic has been open for more than 20 years. It serves roughly 2,000 patients.
