County Board Brings Forward Motion To Fill Vacant Seat; No Action Taken

The majority of the DeWitt County Board requested its Chairwoman appoint the widow of a fallen Board member to his vacant seat Thursday night.

Christina Pruser is the widow of the recently passed Tom Pruser, who represented District B on the DeWitt County Board. Dustin Peterson, Chairman of the DeWitt County Republican Party, made a recommendation to the Board at Thursday night's meeting to have Mrs. Pruser fill the vacancy left by her late-husband. He noted the Board should have declared the vacancy for the District B seat within three days. As of last night, Peterson explained the committee had yet to be notified by Board Chair Sherrie Brown.

Even without notification, the committeemen of District B fully support Christy Pruser to fill the vacancy on the Board. Peterson believes Mrs. Pruser will work hard to fairly represent the people of District B.

width=Brown is considering the recommendation but Board Member Danny Ballenger wanted to discuss the appointment, which was why he put the motion on the agenda. Brown argued only the Board Chair can bring motions for appointments forward.

Ballenger says it's the Chair's responsibility to take the recommendation of the committee, not to screen the potential Board Member. But Brown arues she has planned to speak with Pruser, not interview her. Board Member Doug Tucker agreed with Ballenger that the appointment needed to be taken care of Thursday night.

Brown moved on to the next item on the agenda without any decision being made. At the end of the meeting, Ballenger make a motion for the Board to formally request the Chair appoint Pruser. The motion passed 6-2-1 with Terry Hoffman and George Wismiller voting no and Brown abstaining. Keith Koons and David Newberg were absent Thursday Night.

Brown made no comment after the motion for the request passed and moved onto the next agenda item.
