Senate Bill 16 Could Provide Heyworth With Much Needed Financial Relief

One local school district is looking to find equity through a recent senate bill.

Senate Bill 16 has attempted to find a common ground for school financing. According to Dr. Ty Wolf, Superintendent of Heyworth Schools, districts that need extra funding would be able to get what they need due to lack of resources. Currently, Heyworth is reliant on agricultural and residential areas for revenue which limits the district in certain ways.

Heyworth Schools would receive $169,000 more if Senate Bill 16 is passed as currently constructed. Dr. Wolf feels funding for education cannot be cut any further, and Heyworth and districts all over the state have tried to live within their means, but that is becoming increasingly difficult.

Dr. Wolf says Heyworth has been spending their savings accounts in order to provide a quality education for students. Like many other districts, Dr. Wolf says if they continue this, their reserves will quickly dwindle, which means something needs to be done to better fund education.
