>>Quarterbacks Lead Bears In Preseason Opener

Jay Cutler, Jordan Palmer and Jimmy Clausen threw touchdown passes and the Chicago Bears beat the Philadelphia Eagles 34-28 on Friday night in their preseason opener.

The Bears rattled Nick Foles in the early going, intercepting two passes, even though they were missing Jared Allen. The five-time Pro Bowl defensive end and prized free-agent acquisition missed practices this week with his wife giving birth to a girl.

 width=Tight end Martellus Bennett remained suspended by the team for his role in an altercation with cornerback Kyle Fuller at practice Monday. The Bears also were missing right guard Kyle Long (ankle) and right tackle Jordan Mills (foot), but even with several starters out, they had no trouble moving the ball.

(Bourbonnais, IL) -- Tight end Martellus Bennett is back with the Chicago Bears. His suspension was lifted by the team after five days. He was fined and out of action due to an altercation with cornerback Kyle Fuller. Bennett missed two practice sessions and Friday's preseason opener. Bennett is coming off a career year in his first season with Chicago. He posted career-highs with 65 catches and 759 yards and tied a career-best with five touchdowns.

The Chicago Bears waived offensive lineman Graham Pocic and signed center-guard Rob Turner on Sunday.

The 6-foot-4, 308-pound Turner started 24 games and played in 63 over seven seasons with the New York Jets, St. Louis Rams and Tennessee Titans. He started in six games for Tennessee last season.

Pocic, a Lemont, Illinois native, was signed by the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent last season out of Illinois. The Bears had signed him at the end of July.

(Detroit, MI) -- Quarterback Johnny Manziel [[ man-zel ]] made his NFL debut with the Cleveland Browns during Saturday's preseason game at the Detroit Lions. He entered the game in the second quarter after Brian Hoyer started at QB. The former Heisman Trophy winner went three and out on his first possession. Manziel finished 7-for-11 for 63 yards. He added 27 rushing yards on six carries.

(Undated) -- There is now even more controversy surrounding Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel [[ man- ZEL ]]. ESPN reported on Sunday Manziel jumped ahead of Brian Hoyer, who started the first preseason game on Saturday. Cleveland head coach Mike Pettine [[ PET-in ]] told the "Akron Beacon-Journal" that is "untrue." Hoyer went 6-for-14 with 92 yards. Manziel was 7-of-11 for 63 yards and led the team with 27 rushing yards.
