Resident Calls State of DeWitt County Animal Shelter Criminal, Embarrassing

Dr. Harold Weinberg has been a regular speaker before the DeWitt County Board in recent months advocating for several issues. Thursday night the outspoken resident made his feelings known towards the state of the current animal shelter. He says he is embarrassed to live in a County where the facility in it's condition exists.

Dr. Weinberg also says he continues to submit reports to the board from an architect who has motives for garnering business from the County for a new building. He feels the former Black's heating and air conditioning building is quote-"in the best interest of the County".

The pursuit of a new animal shelter facility has been going on for many years now, and Dr. Weinberg feels if the Board continues to be pessimistic when looking at potential facilities, they will do nothing.

Since the purchase of the former Black's building, ideas have been thrown around to renovate the current animal control facility on the south east corner of the city. It's also been discussed to add on to the current facility.

Previous Board's had agreed to build a new building, however, once the new Board took over in November of 2012, reneged on an agreement and started discussions over.
