Illinois Man Gets Nine Years In Fatal Drunken Crash

A Douglas County judge has sentenced a man to nine years in prison for killing another man while driving drunk.

According to reports, 29-year-old Edgar Maza was sentenced Monday for aggravated DUI in the October death of 47-year-old motorcyclist Harold Adamson of Atwood. Maza pleaded guilty in July.

An Illinois State Police accident reconstruction specialist says Maza was driving at 107 mph before the crash. His blood-alcohol content was 0.132 when measured at a hospital. Illinoi's legal limit is 0.08.

Maza's attorney says the speed was the "main culprit" in the accident, rather than alcohol.

Maza was ordered to make restitution to Adamson's family of about $11,000. He was given credit for 311 days already served in the Douglas County Jail.
