Clinton Fire Department Receives Federal Grant For Equipment Upgrades

width=The Clinton Fire Department was recently awarded a federal grant to upgrade some of their aging equipment.

Clinton Fire received over $140-thousand to upgrade their self-contained breathing apparatuses, or SCBA. According to Clinton Fire Chief Shawn Milton, Clinton's current SCBAs are nearly 15-years old.

According to the Chief, the SCBAs are the primary purpose of the grant, but the Fire Department will also receive funds for secondary equipment. Chief Milton adds there will be a training element to keep his crews up to date with the equipment.

Chief Milton indicates SCBAs should be replaced at least every 15 years, so the department is on schedule in updating their equipment.

The grant, from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program was announced earlier this month by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis.
