Rauner Urges Immediate Appeal To Supreme Court

Republican gubernatorial bidder Bruce Rauner (ROW'-nur) is directing his legal team to appeal an Illinois appeals court ruling that a term limits question cannot appear on the November ballot.

Rauner, a Winnetka businessman, made the decision shortly after the Chicago-based 1st District Court of Appeals issued its decision Wednesday.

The Committee for Legislative Reform and Term Limits, which Rauner chairs, gathered about 600,000 signatures for an initiative to limit Illinois legislators to eight years in office, among other changes. But attorneys with ties to top Democrats sued to keep the measure off the ballot.

A Cook County judge sided with opponents of Rauner's effort, calling it unconstitutional. The term limits group appealed.

Rauner says the Supreme Court should move quickly. The state board of elections will certify the ballot Friday.
