Gas Leak Shuts Down Portion of Clinton

A minor gas leak near downtown Clinton Thursday afternoon shut down portions of an area just east of the square.

At around 10:15 AM Thursday morning, Clinton Fire Department was called to the corner of Main and George Street where a high hoe dug into a gas line, exposing a gas line. At the discovery of the leak, Clinton Police blocked off a one block of Main Street from George to Alexander Streets.

Residents were not evacuated, though authorities frequently checked in to make sure no other signs of natural gas were present.

Crews were on scene for approximately four hours. Authorities attribute the nice weather and Thursday's breeze as contributors to the situation not being serious.
