Social Security Answers Questions Regarding Prisoner Benefits

One lingering question regarding Social Security involves benefits for prisoners.

Kevin Rice, with Social Security, explains many wonder what happene2 to Social Security dollars once a beneficiary has been imprisoned. He adds they administer two specific programs to deal with these situations. If a person's in jail for more than 30 days, checks will stop under the SSI program. Yet, Social Security benefits will only stop if there is a conviction with incarceration.

Rice notes the families of prisoners benefits will usually continue. He says family member have done nothing wrong so they won't be punished.
