A 19-year-old central Illinois man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a drug-related crash that killed another man.
According to reports, Garrett Peterson was sentenced on Tuesday. He had pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated driving under the influence in exchange for prosecutors dropping several other charges.
Prosecutors say Peterson admitted that he'd been drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana at a party in November before getting behind the wheel.
The single-vehicle rollover crash killed passenger Peyton Schneuermann of Somonauk and injured a second passenger.
Prosecutors say the case serves as a reminder about the dangers of drunken driving.
