State Representative Tom Cross says voters should question whether his opponent in the race for Treasurer can handle the job.

Cross is referring to state senator Mike Frerichs, who's planning to spend more than a-million bucks on TV ads in the next two months. Cross points out that Frerichs skipped out on paying the taxes on his legislative office in Champaign for six years. Frerichs paid the 18-hundred-dollar tab last month after reporters uncovered the deficit. Frerichs' aides say he thought he was exempt from paying the bill because the office space is used strictly for public purposes.
