McIlroy, Spieth, Woodland share lead at Cherry Hills

 width=World No. 1 Rory McIlroy opened with a 3-under 67 on Thursday and was tied for the lead when the first round of the BMW Championship was suspended because of bad weather.

McIlroy was joined atop the leaderboard at Cherry Hills Country Club by Jordan Spieth and Gary Woodland. McIlroy won the Open Championship and PGA Championship among his three PGA Tour victories in 2014.

U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer is one of nine players tied at 2-under. He stands alongside Sergio Garcia, Graham DeLaet, Matt Every, Billy Horschel, Kevin Chappell, Russell Henley and Chesson Hadley. Henrik Stenson was also at 2-under through 17 holes when play was suspended due to lightning in the area.

Justin Rose, the 2011 winner, managed a 1-under 69 and was tied with Erik Compton, K.J. Choi, Charles Howell III, Ryan Palmer, Chris Stroud and Hideki Matsuyama.

Jerry Kelly and 2008 champion Camilo Villegas are also 1-under par, but have two holes and one hole remaining in their opening rounds.

The round was suspended with nine players left on the course and will resume at 1 p.m. ET on Friday.
