>>Giants, Lions Look To Bounce Back From Disappointing Seasons

(Detroit, MI) -- Two teams looking to bounce back from disappointing 2013 seasons meet up in the first game of a "Monday Night Football" doubleheader as the New York Giants face the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. The G-Men stumbled out of the gate last year to an 0-and-6 start and couldn't recover, finishing 7-and-9 in the NFC East. The Giants ranked just 28th in the league in points last year, while leading the NFL with 44 turnovers. Longtime offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride retired, with Ben McAdoo coming over from Green Bay to take over this season. The Lions started 6-and-3 last year, but lost six of their final seven games to miss out on the playoffs at 7-and-9. It was the 13th time in 14 years the Lions failed to reach the postseason. Detroit fired head coach Jim Schwartz after the season and replaced him with former Colts head coach Jim Caldwell. The Lions lost to the Giants 23-20 in overtime in Week 16 last year.

>>Chargers, Cardinals Square Off On "MNF"

(Glendale, AZ) -- After finishing the preseason against one another, the San Diego Chargers and Arizona Cardinals meet to open the regular season as the second half of a "Monday Night Football" doubleheader at University of Phoenix Stadium. Riding the arm of quarterback Philip Rivers, the Chargers won their final four games of last season to sneak into the playoffs as an AFC Wild Card at 9-and-7. The Bolts then beat Cincinnati before falling to eventual AFC champion Denver in the divisional round. Rivers threw for nearly 45-hundred yards and 32 touchdowns last season. The Cardinals know every game is precious after missing out on the postseason last year despite a 10-and-6 record. Carson Palmer returns under center for Arizona after passing for a career-high 4,274 yards and 24 touchdowns a year ago. The Cardinals' defense will try to overcome the absence of defensive tackle Darnell Dockett, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice, and stud linebacker Daryl Williams, who is suspended for the entire season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
