Fire Damages Home in DeWitt County

 width=A small fire in a home in the community of DeWitt damaged a small room in the home Saturday evening

According to Clinton Fire Chief Shawn Milton, at approximatley 6 pm, Clinton Fire Department was called to a home on the outskirts of DeWitt after a fire was reported in a small laundry room. The Chief says his crews took care of the small fire, but not before it did some damage to portions of the home.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but the Chief notes the family was doing laundry, so preliminarily that is what they are attributing it to. Chief Milton adds, the fire was large enough to keep crews on scene for approximately two and a half to three hours.

Chief Milton indicates crews from Kenney, Farmer City, Wapella and Weldon Fire Departments on hand for water supply and man power.

He reminds all residents to keep their smoke alarms current with fresh batteries. He explains they will begin their annual fire prevention campaign in a few weeks as they approach fire prevention week, highlighted by the annual fire truck parade in Clinton the first full week of October.
