Knox College Nears End of $16 Million Renovation

Knox College in Galesburg is completing a $16 million renovation project on its alumni building from 1889.

The refurbished Alumni Hall will be dedicated Oct. 11 and is expected to open in January. Work began about a year ago on the building, which will house the admissions office, career center and alumni relations office.

College advancement vice president Beverly Holmes says the building has housed classrooms, a theater, offices and a library in the past. It largely fell out of use in the 1970s.

Hard pine that's more than 150 years old was pulled from the former theater floor and will be used in a gallery for visitors.
