>>Raiders Name Sparano Interim Head Coach

(Oakland, CA) -- Tony Sparano is the interim head coach of the Oakland Raiders. The Silver and Black have promoted their offensive line coach to fill the spot of fired head coach Dennis Allen. General Manager Reggie McKenzie says they couldn't stick with the status quo any longer. The 52-year-old Sparano previously spent parts of four seasons as head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2008-to-2011. The Dolphins went 29-and-32 during that span, winning the AFC East in Sparano's first season. Allen was fired Monday after an 0-and-4 start and was just 8-and-28 in two-plus seasons with Oakland.

>>Colts Extend Robert Mathis

(Indianapolis, IN) -- Despite being out the rest of the season, injured defensive end Robert Mathis is still in the Indianapolis Colts' future plans. The team has extended Mathis' deal for another season. He is now under contract through 2016. Mathis is out for the remainder of 2014 with a torn Achilles. He was suspended for the first four games of this season for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. The 33-year-old led the NFL with 19-and-a-half sacks last season.
