The attorney for the former director of an Illinois agency in charge of a troubled anti-violence program says his client will testify before a legislative panel next week.
Attorney John Theis says Barbara Shaw, who was director of the Illinois Violence Prevention Authority, will answer questions at the Oct. 8 and 9 hearings. According to reports, Theis says Shaw is "prepared to respond to the questions that are asked of her."
Gov. Pat Quinn administration's Neighborhood Recovery Initiative was the subject of a state auditor general's report for mismanagement and misspending. It already has been under scrutiny by federal prosecutors, the Cook County state's attorney and a legislative commission.
Seven witnesses, including Quinn's former chief of staff and deputy chief of staff, have been subpoenaed to testify.
