Illinois will spend roughly $360,000 to modernize traffic signals on state roads in East Peoria.
According to reports, the city council approved an expenditure of about $8,100 on Tuesday for the project that totals $365,000. The Illinois Department of Transportation will install LED modules and pedestrian signs with countdown timers. The city will also receive new batteries for a battery backup system.
Commissioner Dan Decker says the LED traffic lights are much brighter and last longer than the older versions.
